It narrates the tale of Amay Patnaik (Devgn), an income tax deputy commissioner who travels to Lucknow with his wife Malini. He was moved to Lucknow and learns information on MLA Rameshwar Singh's black money hoarding (portrayed by Saurabh Shukla). Rameshwar Singh, better known as Tauji, is a powerful individual.

In the film, a team of income tax officials performs a raid for three to four days in a row. Rameshwar Sing uses his political contacts to try to stop the raid, but he is unsuccessful. He then tries to assassinate officer Amay's family, and then himself. Amay and his family, on the other hand, manage to avoid the hazards. MLA Rameshwar Singh is apprehended by Officer Amay.

Raid is partly based on incidents that occurred in Kanpur in the 1980s. The film is based on a true story about a real-life income tax raid on then-Congress MLA Sardar Inder Singh. In the residence of the then MLA, almost Rs 420 crores in black money and gold were discovered. He and his family used to reside in a mansion in Kanpur.
